Earlier this evening Wolverhampton Wanderers went into our Europa League battle with Sporting Braga in the away leg of the Group K tie and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo knew that a point against the Group leaders in his native Portugal would see both sides through to the Round of 32 with a game to spare.
Going into the game Braga were a point ahead of us in the table, so victory would send us through as potential Group winners.
It was a bright start from the hosts and we found ourselves a goal down within the opening six minutes, but we certainly weren’t dead and buried and Raul Jimenez had us back on level terms in minute 13. In the 34th minute Matt Doherty gave us the advantage and we’d made it 3-1 roughly 60 seconds later as Adama Traore found the back of the net.
We couldn’t build on that advantage though and a spirited response from them in the second period saw the score twice to tie the game up at 3-3. The point sees us qualify through though and that’s all that really matters on the night.
Speaking to the Sky Sports following the full time whistle, our gaffer said of the game.
“We are trying to develop and improve and to achieve other results. We don’t have limits, we always try to keep going. It’s not about momentum, if you expect to play when you have good momentum you’ll have problems. We always want to compete, the momentum doesn’t mean anything. It’s about preparing yourself for the competition, that’s why you don’t have limits. It was our 26th game, we started very early in the season, but the balance has been good and the team is improving.”
